I’m going to show you how to find hot keywords that you can easily rank for using Long Tail Pro.

So first things first.
Intro into keyword research with Long Tail Pro
So the first thing I need to say is, if you think you’re going to be able to rank easily for very broad keywords then you’ve got little to no chance unless you own a super high domain authority site.
It doesn’t matter about going for broad keywords anyway as user intent can be a bit vague on seed keywords.
Think about this.
Do you know more about the person who types “podcast”
The person who types “podcast equipment?”
Obviously the latter.
The term “Podcast” has 1,500,000 global monthly searches, but those searches don’t really tell us about the person visiting your site.
The term “podcast equipment” has just 8100 global monthly searches,
But that’s not a bad thing though.
It’s actually a good thing as you know a lot more about them.
You can tell they’re interested in Podcasting equipment,
Meaning that most likely they want to start a podcast and want to buy some equipment to do that.
Because of that,
You can tailor products and offers to that person with a much higher conversion rate because they are super targeted.
You can target your message in the BEST way as you know EXACTLY what they want.
And the best thing is…
Long tail keywords are easier to rank for!
You’ll be able to go for keywords with a higher chance of ranking for.
Think of all those blog posts that you won’t need to waste hours writing only to find no one ever sees them.
You’ll know better than to go after a broad keyword which is nearly impossible to rank for.
That’s why you should target long tail keywords.
There’s less competition so you’ll have a much a higher chance of ranking and making money of those good keywords.
So let’s get into the good stuff.

How LTP rank tracker works
You pick the URL you are tracking.
So if you domains called howtorankongoogle.com (i know so generic) then you put that in the URL input bar.
Depending on your plan you can track 2-1000 URLS.
You choose the keyword terms you want to monitor.
So say you had a bunch of keywords for which you wanted to rank for certain articles,
- google keyword planner

You then just put the keywords into the keyword box.
NOTE: You can also create groups of keywords or any group that makes sense for you to track, or you can have them all in one list. It’s up to you.)
Once your keywords are in,
You can choose what search engine and what country you want to check the ranking for.
You can choose search results for either Google, Bing or Yahoo.
And nearly every country.
Once that’s done you just click add.
Then all your keywords for that domain will be getting tracked while you do nothing.
Once your keywords tracking status appears there are a few metrics you can see.
- Rank for Yesterday
- Rank for Last Week
- Rank for Last Month
- When it was last Updated
- When’s the Next Update
- Plus Notes
It’s all pretty straightforward.
You’ll see where your keyword currently ranks,
And where it’s ranked in the previous day, week and month.
That way you’ll be able to see if it’s improving or declining.
You can make notes next to each keyword you’re tracking.
For example, you might want to put a note next to a keyword that’s ranking 10th to do some link building to try get it to rank higher.
You can see the big picture for how all your keywords are ranking for your project (URL).
You’ll see how many are ranking in positions 1-10,11-20,21-30 etc
It’s a nice quick way to see how your domains keywords are doing overall.

So next is,
Long Tail Pro’s keyword research tool
This is the meat and bones of this keyword tool.
You can see and do a lot as I’ll show you.
I’m going to give you a rundown of all the features for the Long Tail Pro keyword tool.
Then I’ll show you WHAT the keyword research tool can do and HOW to do it.
After this section, I’ll go from start to finish the process of finding a hot list of keywords you start working on now.
Here are the keyword research tool features
– Google Adwords suggestions
With this feature you enter your seed keyword, which is the broadest sense of your keyword which you’re thinking of targeting.
A seed keyword could be “Internet marketing”,
But it wouldn’t be “how to make money online with internet marketing”.
A seed keyword is just one or two words max, a very broad generic term.
Once you’ve got your seed word/words then you can pick how many suggestions per keyword.
You can pick to see 1-400 suggested keywords.
Usually, 20-40 per keywords is a good amount.
You click receive and you’ll see the results in the columns below.
That’s when these other features come to use.
– Average Keyword Competitiveness (Avg KC)
It pretty much explains itself.
This metric shows you how competitive each keyword phrase is.
This feature ranks each keyword form 0-100 on the chances of it ranking on the first page of google.
It uses a few factors to calculate this.
It’s all rocket science to me but they say they work it out like this.
This metric is calculated using the page title, Majestic Trust Flow and Citation Flow, links, site age, and other factors of the top 10 results found in Google for the keyword. Higher number indicate a higher level of keyword difficulty
They even tell you based on the strength of your domain what KC scores you should be able to rank for.
Those keyword scores are in green or yellow so you know you have a high chance to rank.
Next feature is…
– Keyword Volume
No need to explain this one,
Next to the AVG. KC you’ll see the average times per month that people have searched for those exact keywords.
This is the volume for the country and search engine you’re looking at.
It’s worked out over a 12 month period then averaged evenly.
Next feature is,
This simply indicates via a value of Low, Medium, or High the number of advertisers for each keyword.
This is relative to all the keywords across Google for the location and Search Network targeting that you’ve selected.
– Competition Analysis
You can check and see a more detailed competition analysis.
You simply click on the keyword you want to see the analysis for then a new page will be opened.
You’ll be able to see.
- Search Result Title and URL,
- Keyword Competitiveness
- Domain Keyword Competitiveness
- Trust Flow
- Citation Flow
- Domain Trust Flow
- Domain Citation Flow
- External Backlinks
- Page Ref Domains
- Root Ref Domains
- Indexed URLs
You can see each domain that’s ranking for the keyword you’re thinking of targeting and you can see the metrics that will help you see how to rank better than them.
You can just go of the KC score on the keyword suggestions page.
That is a score based on all the factors above.

Now I’m going to show you step by step…
How to do keyword research with Long Tail Pro?
If you follow me along you should be able to find some pretty juicy long tail keywords with low competition.
So let’s do this.
Step 1: Keyword brainstorming
Do some keyword brainstorming to get some good seed words.
If your niche is knitting then brainstorm all the 1 and 2 broad term words and write them down.
An example would be this,
Knitting knitting basics knitting video Knitting types knitting scarf knitting history knitting crochet Beginners Knitting knitting definition
Pro tip: Do a quick keyword search on google and you’ll see a bunch of related keywords.
Step 2: Generate more keywords
Once you have your list of seed words then you’ll want to get more keywords.
But before you do anything,
Make sure to add your domain so you can see the average KC score you can go after.
New domains will typically be much lower than an aged domain with lots of backlinks.
So make sure you add your domain so you have an accurate estimate of what KC score you can aim to beat.
Once you’ve done that,
Put 5 seed words at a time into the seed keywords box.
Choose how many suggestions you want to get for each keyword.
Then hit retrieve.
You’ll now see a nice long list of suggested keywords.
Then sort from lowest to highest KC score.
From this alone, you can see a bunch of great keywords that you can target.
Then look for the highest volume keywords in your KC range and also look for keywords with good intent,
An example of good intent keywords would be,
Best knitting course, Cheap knitting course Learn how to knit Etc..
Then you just decide what you could write an article about.
However, if you want brownie points, then
Take your keyword research deeper still
You can go a step deeper and click on the +20 icon and get 20 more suggestions from the suggested keyword.
For example, you can click on Knitting Patterns and get 20 more keywords around that.
Now you got some extra keywords in your KC range you might not have seen.

It’s so good, isn’t it?
Then next is…
Step 3: Evaluate the keywords
You want to go through and favorite all your best looking keywords.
To do this,
Simply click the star to the left of the keyword then it will be stored as a favorite.Once you’ve picked all the ones you liked.
Click filter at the top of the keyword column,
Then include only favorites.
Now you will have a list of just your good keywords.
Only favorite keywords that are worth going for,
i.e ones with a Green KC score (and some yellow) and also have a search volume you are happy with.
Then go through and click on each keyword and see the Competition Analysis
I would then click on each URL and see the content for each article in the top 5 results, 3 at a minimum.
Then have a look and ask yourself can I do a better job.
Can I create an epic piece that will smash this out of the park?
If you’re prepared to write a better and a little longer post then I would say the keyword is worth adding to your list of articles you’re going to create.
Keep doing this process and within a short time, you’ll have a list of killer keywords to target!
Step 4: Create epic content!
You can have all the greatest keywords in the world worth targeting but if you’re going to write poor content then what’s the point.
You want to be better in every way.
- Create a more in-depth article
- Make it easier to read
- Include better information
- Have a great call to action at the end
It’s not complicated,
It just takes a bit of effort.
To help you, as a little bonus to this Long Tail Pro review I’ll share a few tips for creating epic content that has a good chance to rank in the top 10 of Google.
4 Tips For Creating Epic Content
1. Create amazing headlines
This is so underrated but it’s got to be one of the most important parts of writing a great piece of content.
If no one clicks to see your post then all those hours you spend crafting that great post will have been in vain.
You need to put some serious thought into your headline. Some suggest you spend as much on your headline as writing your content.
I would say the that’s a little OTT but still,
You should give it a good chunk of time.
Don’t underestimate the power of this step. If your article is say 3rd or 4th but it’s getting clicked more than position 1 and 2 then it will most likely move up providing your content is good.

2. Create a great hook
So you’ve done the first bit right,
You’ve got people to click your article over theirs.
Next, you need to hook them in to read the article.
But just because you got people to read and click your headline, it doesn’t mean your job is done.
There’s a great analogy from the renowned copywriter Joe Sugarman.
Your sales letter needs to be like a slippery
slide at a playground covered with grease.
Your reader gets on and slides all the way down to the bottom without any resistance.
The same applies to blog posts.
Once they start you want them to smoothly go through your post to the bottom with no resistance.
To start that process,
You need to get them to read the first paragraph by hooking them in.
I recommend you use “The APP Method”.
Here’s what it looks like.
As you can see APP stands for Agree, Promise and Preview.
Let’s break it down for you to see in action:
First, you need to get them to agree.
You can do that by stating an idea or concept that you know your reader will nod in agreement to.
That way they know you understand them.
I used that to start this Long Tail Pro Review post.
Now they’re agreeing with you, you make them a promise.
This is where you show them that there’s a better way to their problem.
Here’s how I did it in this post.
Then lastly you hit them with a preview.
Just get straight to the point and show them what you’ve got in store for them in your post.
You’ll now have them hoooked and heading down the greased chute!
3. Make your article scannable
It’s broken up with plenty of headlines and subheadlines and some bullet points as well.
After someone clicks on your article and then reads the hook they usually scan the rest of the article quickly.
After that, they make the decision to read the article or not.
You want to give an outline of the story in the headers and sub-headers.
If you do a good job at the that then your reader will know what’s in the article and will WANT to read it all.
Keep your sentences short and punchier if possible.
Scannable content is more pleasing on the eye and looks easy to read.
Big blocks of text to look hard to read and will put most people off.
If you look back over this article you can see there are no big blocks of text.
It’s probably why you’re still reading now.
It’s also easier to write this way.

4. Have a powerful call to action
You’ve done everything right up to this point.
You’ve got a powerful attention-grabbing headline.
You’ve got a gripping hook.
You’ve made your article a scannable masterpiece.
You end it with a vague call to action and your reader just leaves.
Don’t go through all the work then not give a clear call to action.
If you want to someone subscribe to your email list then ASK THEM.
If you have a discount for the product you just reviewed then TELL THEM.
Just don’t be vague.
