Yo it’s Alan Young and in this article, I’ll show you the how to wake up at 4:30 am every day and love it.
Believe me, I know how hard it can be to wake up fresh with a zest for life.
I was more used to waking up groggy and tired with no excitement for the day. That was after 9 hrs of sleep as well.
Now, I can wake up early and love it even after less sleep. To be honest that’s one thing you need to know.
You probably don’t need as much sleep as you think.
I find the more sleep I get the more tired I feel and harder I find it to roll out of bed. More on that in a minute.
In this article I laid out some simple steps so you can get up at 4:30 and not actually die. It’ll be actually quite enjoyable. I know, you probably don’t believe me, but at least give it a try then let me know what you think. Do we have a deal? Good! Let’s begin.
Oh one more thing, if you’re looking to know how to get up early and have your best mornings ever then check out this book called the miracle morning.
It’s one of the best books I’ve read. Just thought I’d throw that in there!
So without further ado here are some simple steps to know how to wake up at 4:30 am and love it.
How To Wake Up At 4:30 am Like A Boss!
Know what your optimal amount of sleep is
Tip: It’s probably less than you think. Before you start getting up early you need to know how much sleep you need.
When you know, you’ll be able to go to bed at the best time for you. I tell you one thing though.
You probably need less sleep than you think.
I find when I sleep for 9 or 10 hours I feel foggier and hazy when I awake and for a good few hours after waking up.
On the other hand, if I sleep for 5-6 hours then I feel great with much more clarity in the morning.
Try going to bed at different times and see how much sleep you feel best from. Try 5,6,7 and 8 hours and then go to bed according to how much sleep you need.
I think you’ll find 6 hours is sufficient. Tony Robbins claims to only get 3-5 hours a night and you know how much energy he has!
Next thing is…
Say no to the snooze button
Repeat to me, the snooze button is not my friend. It’s so easy to keep hitting that snooze button. It literally does nothing for you.
That extra hour of lying in bed falling back to sleep then waking back up ten minutes later to hit the alarm then going back to sleep to then wake back up again ten minutes later to hit the snooze button AGAIN is just a waste of time.
Whether you hit that snooze button 5 times or not, you’re going to feel the same when you eventually get out of bed so you might as well get up when the alarm goes.
Think about it, whats the point?
If you were going to spend an hour hitting that snooze button you might as well set your alarm 1 hr later then get up.
My experience is I feel much better when I just get up when the alarm goes. In fact, I find that I wake up most days before the alarm goes off anyway.
You feel a sense of pride not hitting that snooze button anymore which makes you feel better when you get up. Try it and you’ll see.
Try moving your alarm to the other side of the room
Or even outside the room so you physically have to get up at and turn it off.
Then make sure you do not go back to bed for just a couple of minutes as those couples of minutes will turn into an hour. Believe me, I’ve done it!
If your phone is next to you, you’ll prob hit snooze and fall back to sleep without even knowing you did it because you’re half asleep anyway.
Go to bed at a reasonable time.
I know this is obvious but so many people sit up to 1 am and wonder why they find it hard to get up early.
I think about 6hrs is plenty of sleep so I go to bed around 10.
Before I go to sleep I normally read for 20mins, I try not to read something that’s going to get me pumped like a Tony Robbins book.
Then usually I’ll be asleep by 10:30. I fall asleep easily so I’m lucky. If you don’t you might want to make sure you give yourself a little extra time to fall asleep.
Don’t eat crappy foods before bed
This one’s surprisingly quite overlooked. Most people wouldn’t think this would matter when wanting to know how to wake up at 4:30 am.
Trust me though, it does make a big difference in how you feel when you wake up in the morning
If I eat crap before bed, then I wake up like I’ve got a hangover.
Especially if I eat chocolate. I try an avoid sugar in the evening if possible.
I’m not perfect, if my fiance whips out a big fat Toblerone then, of course, I’m going to have some…
But believe me I’m going to pay the consequences in the morning.
Put good foods and plenty of water in your body then you’ll wake up much more refreshed. I used to get takeaways at 9 pm then go to bed shortly after then wonder why I felt so groggy in the morning.
Now I try to fuel my body the best I can and that makes a big difference in how I wake up. Try it yourself.
Cut out sugar and crap in the evenings and you’ll thank yourself in the morning!
Have a pre-bed routine
This is something I’ve just started applying recently and it helps a lot. This is for all you people who find it hard to nod off easily.
Most people watch TV and sit on their phone right up until they go to bed, I’m 100% guilty of doing this. I even used go to sleep with the TV on, I actually couldn’t sleep without it on.
I found that your brain finds it much harder to switch off when you watch TV or sit on your phone right until you try to go to sleep.
Here’s what I’ve started doing and I find it so easy to fall asleep plus my quality of sleep is so much better. I don’t watch TV an hour before bed. I also stay off my phone and computer as well.
This gives me time to wind down. I’ll also meditate for 20mins before bedtime. Then when I’m in bed I’ll read for about 20mins.
I try not to read personal development books before bed otherwise I’m planning world domination till 4 am so I try to stick to fiction so I don’t think too much about what I’m reading.
This next tip is key to knowing how to wake up at 4:30 am and actually love it.
Have something to get up for
Sounds obvious I know, but unless you actually have a good reason to get up at 4:30 then you probably won’t want to.
If you’re clear on why you want to get up early then you’ll actually look forward to it. I personally get up early so I can do my Morning Ritual then work on my business while it’s quiet in my house. I find I’m most productive then.
I’ve been doing a morning ritual that I learned from Stefan James’s Morning Ritual Mastery and I love it. My day starts off amazing when I take 30mins to an hour doing some simple things.

An example is this, I like to Smile when I awake, then drink a glass of water. Then I walk for 10mins to fully wake up. This is followed by empowering questions.
Then say some affirmations and then me reading 10 pages of a personal development book. I’ll also then go to the gym and be back home by 7 am.
By 7 am I’m ready to take on the world whilst most people are still hitting that snooze button.
So the key here is to be clear on what you want to achieve by getting up at 4:30 am.
Do you want to use that time…
- To workout?
- To prepare healthy food for the day?
- To work on your own side business before work?
- Or to even start a morning ritual to start your day off well?
It doesn’t matter what it is as long as it makes you excited to be doing it.
If you want to get in great shape then get excited about what you can achieve by getting up early to workout and get your food prepped for the day.
It also gives you a mental edge knowing you are committed to getting up earlier than most are willing to.
